What FreeType is
FreeType is a free, no-sign-up typing platform. You take a short test — word drills or real code — and get your words per minute, accuracy and consistency instantly. Beyond the score, a per-key heatmap shows exactly which keys slow you down, a skill tree tracks your progression, and a public leaderboard lets you claim a handle and compete.
How the metrics are measured
WPM is the standard formula: correct characters divided by five, divided by elapsed minutes. The timer starts on your first keystroke, not on page load. Raw WPM counts every keystroke including mistakes. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that matched the target. Consistency measures how even the rhythm between your keystrokes is — a steady 70 WPM beats a bursty one.
Your data
Practice stats live in your own browser. Nothing is stored on our servers unless you choose to submit a score to the leaderboard — and even then, all we keep is the handle you picked and your results. Details in the privacy policy.
